The California-born bass baritone Evan Hughes has built a worldwide career as a versatile and daring singer, on both the international operatic stage and in contemporary music. Hailed by Opera News as “strikingly imaginative”, and the New York Times for his “appealing clarity and emotional heft”, his career began in the United States after studies at the Curtis Institute of Music, and as a young artist at the Metropolitan Opera, leading to European debuts.
Evan has performed at some of the world's leading opera houses and concert halls, including; Carnegie Hall, The Metropolitan Opera, the Hollywood Bowl, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Hamburg Staatsoper, Säschsiche Staatsoper, and Berlin and Paris’ Philharmonies. He has been a soloist with the New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Met Chamber Ensemble, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Moscow Philharmonic, Ensemble Intercontemporain, and many others.
Indian-American pianist Kunal Lahiry is a current BBC New Generation Artist and recipient of the 2021 Carl Bechstein Foundation scholarship. Recent performance highlights include at the Wigmore Hall, Kennedy Center, Pierre Boulez Saal, Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Carnegie Hall Weill Recital Room, Musée d’Orsay, Ludwigsburg Festival, Life Victoria de Los Angeles Festival, and at the Ravinia Festival’s Steans Music Institute.
This season includes appearances at the Philharmonie de Paris, Elbphilharmonie, Konzerthaus Berlin, Oxford Lieder Festival, BBC Philharmonic, Wigmore Hall, and more.
The pair present a program featuring works by Debussy, Barber, Schubert, Purcell, Finzi and Ravel.
